Luis Martin Cabiedes He was part of the first batch to invest in the Internet, something he attributes to the “luck” of having been exposed to the media. “We witnessed very early and first-hand the revolution that the Internet represented for our industry,” which, he assures, helped them adopt a braver stance, positioning themselves in projects such as “Olé” or “MyAlert”.

Despite his extensive experience, he does not hide his eagerness to remain linked to the world of teachingwhether learning or imparting knowledge. His students, he admits, have left a lot of mark on him. “Every year I have to force myself to update my knowledge, update it and see if it is relevant.” In fact, some of his more than 150 investments have been allocated to his students’ projects.

His investment strategy, he points out, despite not having radical changes, is very firm and evolves gradually. “Our strategy has always been very cautious,” he says, although he recognizes that this has led them to miss some good opportunities. However, he points out that it is necessary to be flexible, since “Investing is an art and a craft, and you can have your rules but you have to be willing to always break them”. At the same time, he believes that the good investor trains his abilities to know how to recognize when to bet on a project and when not to, so that he can avoid what he calls “consensus investments”, with very similar portfolios and “loose” investments.

Cabiedes qualifies as “spectacular” the new wave of Artificial Intelligencealthough for him the most shocking was the Internet. “The fact that any computer had all the content in the world at its fingertips is the most brutal thing that has ever happened.” It defines AI as a natural development of software, which has also made a quantitative leap, but more as a technology than an investment opportunity. “It is a huge technological revolution, but as an investment opportunity it leaves me a little colder.” Even so, he is expectant about the evolution he may experience.
