LibreOffice, the popular open source alternative to Microsoft Office, has just launched a new guide that adds one more chapter to the battle that is being fought between both actors.
Specifically, LibreOffice has launched a free guide to migrate to the format Open Document Formatwhile accusing Microsoft of «exploiting users» through blocking strategies.
Although Microsoft Office is a success, with more than 400 million active commercial licenses, from LibreOffice they warn that this success is mostly due to actions aimed at retaining the user and not so much to the quality of the service.
Just a few weeks ago, Libreoffice accused Microsoft of using excessively complex formats to «enclose» customers in their Microsoft 365 and Office ecosystem.
They comment that Microsoft hinders in this way that their own files are adequately interpreted by other competitive programs such as LibreOffice.
Faced with this, they consider that ODF is the open and perfect alternative, since it has “with transparent specifications that protect privacy, interoperability, long -term access and data ownership”.
Interestingly, LibreOffice not only loads against Microsoftbut also talks about other competitors such as WPS Office and Onlyofficethat «do everything possible» to stop the transition.
