Microsoft modifies its login system: is this secure?

Microsoft will forever change the login issue on your computer, making it so that users now stay logged in automatically, although there could be some risk on public, business or shared computers.

Signing into your Microsoft account could be more risky than ever starting in February 2025 as they implement a significant change to the account authentication system.

Starting in February, all users will remain logged in to the sessions they are logged into unless you explicitly log outsomething that many people do not do because they are in a hurry or because they do not take it into account.

Today, when you log in to a Microsoft service, for example, Outlook, a pop-up window appears indicating whether you want to stay logged in.

If you accept you will stay connected, but if you reject you will have to re-enter your credentials some time later.

Well, this will disappear starting in February and could cause security havoc for users.

This also affects all Microsoft services, such as Outlook, Microsoft 365, OneDrive and similar.

Maybe if you are the only person who uses the computer it may even be fine for you, but if it is a shared computer at home, at school or even in a company, things could get quite complicated.

That is, starting in February, If you use a shared computer, log in with your account and forget to close it, another user could take advantage of the login.

What is the global logout that Microsoft will implement?

With the release of this controversial security feature starting in February, Redmond will include the “global logout” option.

Thanks to this new option, we will be able to close our session on absolutely all the devices on which it has been started, but it will not be exactly perfect.

If you want to try the new full logout option you can visit this Microsoft support page, enter your access credentials, and then click the new “log out everywhere” button.

However, as you can read, It may take up to 24 hours to log out of your account across devices.

How to prevent our session from being logged in automatically to the Microsoft account

One of them, It’s basically making sure you hit the disconnect button every time you leave the computer.

But if you forget, what you could do is directly manage the entire Microsoft account sign-in thing in a private window of your browser.

These private windows only keep you logged in for that moment, and closing them results in the session being lost.

Microsoft recommends using private browsing in your favorite browser on computers that you don’t own.
