The Ibex 35 rises thanks to the push of ACS, Indra, Aena and the big banks and is close to 17,850

The IBEX 35 closed with a rise of 0.99% to reach 17,848.00 points after having surpassed 17,900 points intraday. ACS has especially shone, with a rise of 4.68%, while Indra has risen 3.42%. Aena, Banco Santander, ArcelorMittal, Acerinox and BBVA have registered increases of more than 2%. On the downhill side, Amadeus is still in the doldrums; today it has dropped 4.20%.

The Madrid selective is recovering after a difficult week in which it ended up losing 1.50% after accumulating four consecutive days in the red, its worst streak so far this year. And that Monday had begun with new historical highs, at 18,195.10 points.

Today we must take into account that today investors have been orphans of Wall Street, which remains closed this Monday for the Presidents’ Day holiday. China’s stock exchanges have also been closed due to the New Year celebrations. The big macro references of the week will arrive in the coming days: in the US the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting minutes Last January, the first estimate of the US GDP for the fourth quarter and the personal consumption price index (PCE)for the month of December, a price variable that is the most followed by the Fed. Meanwhile, in Europe, the publication of the final January inflation readings in the main European economies is expected.

In addition, the US Supreme Court has announced that it will issue opinions on February 20, 24 and 25, making it possible that, as soon as Friday, it will issue its verdict on the Trump Government’s use of a national emergency law to implement generalized tariffs on all its trading partners.

Today Repsol is also the protagonist after learning that it has appointed Juan Romero global director of intermediation. Romero will replace José Antonio Correa, who has retired. The company intends to expand its trading division as part of its broader strategy to transition from a traditional oil and gas company to a multi-energy company, a shift that also comes as it considers a reverse merger for its exploration and production portfolio.

Investors also have to pay attention to BBVA’s price, after the bank announced on Friday after the markets closed that it will propose at the next shareholders meeting the payment of a complementary dividend for the year 2025 of 0.60 gross euros per share to be paid on April 10.

The bank has already executed 69.67% of the first tranche, of 1.5 billion euros, of the share buyback of up to 3.96 billion euros that began on December 22, 2025.

In analyst recommendations, Jefferies has raised ACS from ‘hold’ to ‘buy’ and increased its price target from 53.1 to 116 euros, shooting its upside potential to 18% compared to Friday’s close.

UBS has adjusted Banco Santander’s target price to 11.70 euros, with an upside potential of more than 16%. Furthermore, the asset may begin a rebound in the coming days, analyst Álvaro Nieto points out from a technical point of view.

Barclays has resumed coverage of Ferrovial with an ‘overweight’ advice and a price target of €70. Potential of 14.22% compared to Friday’s close. In other news of the day, the company has won a contract in the United Kingdom valued at 88 million pounds (101 million euros) to carry out the renovation of the Thames Water Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in the town of Slough.

Meanwhile, Indra has been selected by Enaire to carry out the modernization of air traffic control in a contract valued at almost 12 million euros.

The agency Moody’s has decided to upgrade Grifols’ rating from B2 to B1 with a stable outlook, which reflects the company’s continued operating performance and the strength of its business fundamentals, it notes.

In the Continuous Market, the main protagonist of the session has been OHLA, which has skyrocketed on the Stock Market due to information that indicates that José Elías will for the moment maintain his stake in the company without selling.

Europe, Asia and other markets

On the European stock markets, the EURO STOXX 50, the main indicator of the Old Continent, fell by a slight 0.11% to 5,978 points, while the DAX ended up falling by 0.45%. In Paris, the CAC 40 rose 0.06% while in London the FTSE 100 advanced 0.22%.

During the early morning hours, Asian stocks quietly consolidated recent strong gains, as the Lunar New Year holiday caused reduced trading volume, and while dismal economic data from Japan sapped some momentum from that market. The Japanese economy once again grew timidly in the fourth quarter (0.2% annually), well below market expectations, in a key test for Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s governmentwhile cost-of-living pressures continue to weigh on confidence and domestic demand. Thus, the Nikkei 225 index in Tokyo closed with a decrease of 0.22% to 56,818 points.

In raw materials markets, oil is trading with gains, as investors weigh the implications for the market of the upcoming talks between the US and Iran aimed at reducing tension, in a context of foreseeable increases in OPEC+ supply. Iran seeks a nuclear deal with the US that brings economic benefits to both parties, an Iranian diplomat told the agency. Reuters. European benchmark Brent oil rose 0.93% to $68.38 per barrel in mid-afternoon, while US West Texas futures settled at $63.37, up 0.99%.

The euro fell 0.16% against the dollar, leaving the exchange rate at 1.1853 dollars for each single currency.

In fixed income, the ten-year Spanish bond offers a return of 3.180%, which leaves the risk premium against Germany at 43.45 points. The Spanish Public Treasury will close the February auctions next Thursday with a medium and long-term debt issue.
